Eating in Imperia

Imperia is the western riviera: terraced olive groves down to the sea, and a kitchen that turns around oil.

The oil and the olive

Taggiasca is this province's olive: small, sweet, and the source of Riviera Ligure DOP oil — Riviera dei Fiori. It is eaten in brine and finds its way into almost every dish.

The dishes

  • Ligurian rabbit — with Taggiasca olives, pine nuts, thyme and white wine: the province's dish;
  • Brandacujun — stockfish and potato whipped by shaking the pot, which is where the name comes from;
  • Sardenaira (or pissalandrea) from Sanremo, the focaccia with tomato, anchovies and olives;
  • Stewed stockfish and gianchetti, when the season allows.

The sweets

The canestrelli of Taggia and Ligurian pumpkin tart.

In the glass

Rossese di Dolceacqua DOC is the red of the Nervia valley; in white there are Pigato and Vermentino from the Riviera Ligure di Ponente.

Opening hours and closing days change. The ones on the listings come from public sources and may be out of date. Where a restaurant confirms tables with us, the availability you see is the real one.
