Eating in Monza
Monza is the capital of the Brianza, and Brianza cooking is Lombard home cooking: little fish, plenty of pork, rice and polenta.
The dishes
- Risotto with luganega — the long Monza sausage, crumbled into the rice. The luganega here has its own recipe, with broth and grana worked into it;
- Cassoeula, made in the Brianza after the first frosts;
- Rostin negaa — veal knots "drowned" in white wine and broth;
- Busecca, stewed tripe, a dish for special days.
The sweets
Torta paesana (or milk cake) starts from stale bread soaked in milk, with cocoa and raisins: the Brianza's home dessert, sold by the slice.
Around it
The Colli Briantei and the Valassina bring fresh cheeses and honey; the great park of the Villa Reale is where the city spends Sunday before sitting down to eat.
