Eating in Sondrio
Sondrio is the Valtellina, and the Valtellina has a kitchen you can name in three words: buckwheat, cheese, mountain wine.
The dishes
- Pizzoccheri della Valtellina IGP — buckwheat tagliatelle with cabbage, potato, butter and Valtellina Casera DOP. That is the dish, and it is baked in a dish;
- Sciatt — buckwheat fritters with melting cheese inside, served on chicory;
- Polenta taragna and chiscöi;
- Bresaola della Valtellina IGP, sliced thin with oil and lemon.

Nebbiolo is called Chiavennasca here, and gives Valtellina Superiore DOCG (Sassella, Grumello, Inferno, Valgella) and Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG, from dried grapes.
