Where the listings come from, and why they’re sometimes wrong
No restaurateur asked to be here. That’s why the catalogue is broad, and it’s also why it goes stale.

«All verified»: what it means, and what it doesn’t
Here a review is tied to a meal that took place. It is an inconvenient rule — it shuts a lot of people out — and everything that «all verified» can promise lives inside it.

Eating in Verbania
Verbania sits on Lake Maggiore, and its province climbs to the Ossola valley and the Swiss border: two kitchens within twenty kilometres.
From the lake
Whitefish, shad, perch and pike in salsa: lake fish is served with rice or polenta, and perch risotto is the dish of the shore.
From the Ossola
- Ossola gnocchi, made with potato and chestnut or squash;
- Violino di capra, the goat ham sliced while held like an instrument;
- Mocetta and valley brisaula, and alpine cheeses such as Bettelmatt;
- Polenta with toma, entirely at home here.
The sweets
The margheritine of Stresa, named after Queen Margherita, and the lake's fugascin. The wine is Ossola DOC and, further down, the Nebbiolos of Upper Piedmont.
Opening hours and closing days change. The ones on the listings come from public sources and may be out of date. Where a restaurant confirms tables with us, the availability you see is the real one.
