Eating in Agrigento

Agrigento faces the Sicilian Channel, and its province brings together the coast at Sciacca and the Sicani countryside.

From the sea

Sciacca is one of the island's major fishing ports: from there come sardines, anchovies — salted and in brine — and the oily fish that end up in pasta and omelettes.

The dishes

  • Taganu di Aragona — a timbale of pasta, meat, eggs and cheese baked in an earthenware pot that is broken at the table. It is made at Easter;
  • Pasta chi masculini and pasta con le sarde;
  • Fish couscous, carried over from neighbouring Trapani;
  • Cunzatu, bread dressed with tomato, anchovy, oregano and cheese.

From the countryside

Arancia di Ribera DOP, sweet and seedless; Pesca di Bivona IGP, Raffadali pistachios and prickly pears.

The sweets

The sweet cuscusù of the Santo Spirito monastery, with pistachio and chocolate, and mustazzola.

In the glass

Whites from Grillo and Inzolia, and Nero d'Avola from the hill country.

Opening hours and closing days change. The ones on the listings come from public sources and may be out of date. Where a restaurant confirms tables with us, the availability you see is the real one.
