Eating in Arezzo

Arezzo holds four valleys together — Valdichiana, Casentino, Valtiberina, Valdarno — and each brings something of its own to the table.

The city's dishes

  • Grifi all'aretina — veal muzzle stewed slowly in tomato and served with bread. It is the signature dish, and you will not find it elsewhere;
  • Scottiglia — mixed meats stewed together, from the Casentino, served over bread;
  • Acquacotta — bread, onion, vegetables and egg: the woodcutters' soup of the Casentino.

The beef

Chianina is the breed of the Valdichiana, and it is what the steak is made of across Tuscany. Here you are on its home ground.

The rest

Casentino ham, the pecorino of the same valleys, and cantucci beside a glass of vin santo. The wine is Chianti dei Colli Aretini and, in the Valdichiana, red Vernaccia.

Opening hours and closing days change. The ones on the listings come from public sources and may be out of date. Where a restaurant confirms tables with us, the availability you see is the real one.
