Lecco sits where the lake ends and the mountains begin, and eats from both.
From the lake
Missoltini, shad, whitefish and perch: the fish is served with polenta, and the missoltini are warmed over embers before they reach the table.
From the mountains
- Polenta uncia — with butter, garlic and cheese, typical of the Valsassina;
- Toc' in braga, and polenta taragna higher up;
- Casoncelli and winter cassoeula.
The cheeses
The Valsassina is one of the ageing areas for Taleggio DOP; it also brings quartirolo, robiola and zincarlin. Among the sweets, paradella and the nocciolini di Canzo.
