Eating in Savona

Savona is port and vegetable gardens at once: the Albenga plain, just beyond, is one of the most productive market-garden areas in Italy.

From the gardens

  • Violet artichokes of Albenga, eaten raw with oil and salt;
  • Trombetta courgettes, long and curved, and Albenga's violet asparagus;
  • Vessalico garlic, sold in plaits.

The dishes

  • Farinata, which in Savona every bakery has;
  • Cima, vegetable tarts and Ligurian panissa — chickpea polenta cut into sticks and fried;
  • Bagnun, the fishermen's anchovy soup with bread;
  • Stockfish and buridda.

The chinotto

The chinotto of Savona is a Slow Food presidium citrus: candied, preserved in spirit, and the source of the soft drink that carries its name.

In the glass

Pigato, Vermentino, and Granaccia from Quiliano among the reds.

Opening hours and closing days change. The ones on the listings come from public sources and may be out of date. Where a restaurant confirms tables with us, the availability you see is the real one.
