Eating in Vibo Valentia
The province of Vibo holds two products Calabria sends everywhere, and both are born a few kilometres from the city.
The 'nduja
'Nduja di Spilinga is a spreadable sausage of fatty pork and chilli, in almost equal parts. It is spread on warm bread, melted into pasta and sauce, and the village holds its festival in August.
The onion
Cipolla Rossa di Tropea Calabria IGP is sweet enough to eat raw: in salad, in omelettes, as jam, and even in ice cream, which in Tropea genuinely exists.
The dishes
- Fileja with 'nduja or goat ragù;
- Swordfish and tuna from the Costa degli Dei;
- Fried salt cod and stockfish;
- Pitta and anchovy crispelle.
